FCT Polls: No Political Calculation Can Undermine Hausa Votes – Bashir Ahmad

David Egbede, February 23, 2026February 23, 2026

Bashir Ahmad has responded to the outcome of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election in the recently concluded FCT area council polls.

In a post shared on his verified X account on Sunday, the former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari stated that any credible electoral analysis in AMAC must take into account the Hausa voting bloc.

RBN reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the elected chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC.

Maikalangu secured 40,295 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Paul Ogidi of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who garnered 12,109 votes.

Reacting to the result, Ahmad said: “In AMAC, political reality is clear and no serious electoral calculation can ignore the Hausa voting community, one of the largest, most organized and politically conscious populations in the city.

“Attempting to contest an election without engaging, respecting and building trust within this community is just a strategic miscalculation, a political suicide and a subtle insult to a critical voting bloc whose influence continues to shape outcomes across wards and polling units in this city.”
