FCT Elections: ADC Condemns Wike’s ‘War’ Remark, Says Voters Not Tinubu Will Decide

David Egbede, February 16, 2026February 21, 2026

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday has faulted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his reported declaration of “war” on candidates opposed to President Tinubu ahead of the February 21, 2026 elections, cautioning that such language could inflame political tensions and undermine democratic stability.

The party maintained that the election outcome rests with the electorate, not with Bola Ahmed Tinubu or any government official.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC alleged that Wike and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were seeking to intimidate voters and pledged to challenge any attempt to subvert the will of Nigerians through lawful and constitutional channels.

“We consider the Minister’s declaration of ‘war’ against so-called anti-Tinubu candidates not only irresponsible but dangerous in the current fragile atmosphere of our nation.

“Nigeria is not a battlefield for political vendettas; it is a constitutional democracy. The sovereign will rests with the Nigerian people, not with any President, not with any Minister, and certainly not with those who mistake access to state power for ownership of the nation.

“Nigerians cannot and will not be intimidated. Attempts to threaten or coerce voters into political submission only advertise their fear.

“Any attempt, overt or covert, to subvert the will of Nigerians to freely choose their leaders will be firmly resisted through every lawful means at our disposal,” the party said.
