The Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Mustapha Abdullahi, has expressed support for a proposed solar power initiative aimed at improving energy sustainability at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
Abdullahi made the remarks on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, alongside a delegation led by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Udeh.
According to officials, discussions during the visit focused on plans to deploy solar energy solutions to enhance power supply and energy efficiency at the commission’s headquarters.
The ECN Director-General noted that the proposed initiative forms part of the government’s broader solarisation programme, which has already been implemented in several federal universities and medical institutions across the country.
He explained that the commission is working to expand the adoption of renewable energy solutions within key government institutions as part of efforts to improve sustainability and reduce reliance on conventional power sources.
Abdullahi also pledged that the Energy Commission would install a solar power system at the INEC headquarters and conduct a comprehensive energy audit to identify areas for improved efficiency.
He added that the initiative reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening institutional collaboration through renewable energy projects.
