The pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has called on Nigerians to push back against what it described as a deliberate move to sideline opposition parties following INEC’s stance on the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Reacting to INEC’s refusal to recognise the party’s current leadership, Afenifere leader, Oladipo Olaitan, warned that the decision could disenfranchise many members ahead of upcoming elections.
“This is an ambush. If members are unable to regularise their status within the stipulated timeframe, they risk being shut out of the electoral process entirely,” he said.
Olaitan noted that affected members may struggle to switch parties without breaching electoral laws, while ongoing legal battles could delay any resolution beyond key deadlines.
Describing the development as a broader attempt to weaken opposition voices, he added: “It is a new tactic to push them out of circulation. Nigerians should not accept it.”
