The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 31 suspected internet fraudsters during a raid on a cybercrime training centre, popularly known as a “Yahoo Academy,” in Becki Estate, Karu, within the Federal Capital Territory.

The operation, carried out on Thursday, led to the arrest of two alleged kingpins and several trainees who were reportedly undergoing lessons in internet fraud at the facility.
Items recovered from the suspects include multiple mobile phones, 18 laptops, and other electronic devices believed to be used for cybercrime activities.
According to the EFCC, investigations revealed that some recruits were lured from Benue State with promises of legitimate job opportunities.
However, upon arrival, they were allegedly confined to the premises, provided with gadgets and software, and trained in fraudulent online schemes.
The agency further disclosed that the trainees were restricted from leaving the compound, had their phones confiscated, and were subjected to strict control measures, including physical punishment for non-compliance.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
