The Super Eagles of Nigeria clinched third place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday, edging Egypt 4–2 on penalties at the Mohammed V Stadium in Morocco to secure the bronze medal.

Nigeria triumphed 4–2 in the penalty shootout, with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali playing a pivotal role by saving two Egyptian spot kicks. His heroics helped the Super Eagles keep their composure and seal the victory.

The result maintained Nigeria’s strong record in AFCON third-place playoffs, as they remain unbeaten in the fixture and claimed their ninth podium finish in the competition’s history. For Egypt, the defeat extended a difficult run, marking their fourth straight loss in the third-place match and condemning them to another fourth-place finish.

The win provided welcome relief for Nigeria after their heartbreaking semi-final elimination by hosts Morocco, where they were also edged out on penalties following a closely fought contest. On this occasion, however, the Super Eagles showed greater calm and resilience at the decisive moment.

With the victory, Nigeria closed their AFCON 2025 campaign on a positive note, while Egypt settled for fourth place in the tournament.
