Vanessa Dokotri, January 7, 2026

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Odusote as Director-General of the Nigerian Law School (NLS), making her the first woman to head the institution since its establishment in 1962.

The appointment, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, takes effect from January 10 and is for a four-year tenure.

Dr Odusote currently serves as Deputy Director-General and Head of the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus. She succeeds Prof Isa Chiroma, whose tenure ends on January 9, after eight years in office.

An accomplished legal academic and administrator, Odusote obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. Her appointment is widely seen as a milestone in the history of legal education in Nigeria.
