El-Rufai Arrives Court as Bail Hearing Resumes

David Egbede, April 1, 2026April 1, 2026

Nasir El-Rufai arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Wednesday morning for the continuation of hearing on his bail application.

The former governor was seen entering the court premises around 9:00 a.m. under heavy security presence.

Proceedings resumed following Tuesday’s adjournment by the presiding judge, Rilwan Aikawa, after a series of legal exchanges between the defence and prosecution teams.

El-Rufai’s legal team, led by Barrister Ubong Akpan, had earlier filed a motion requesting the judge to recuse himself over alleged bias. However, the application was later withdrawn, contributing to delays in the case.

The prosecution also filed a counter-affidavit opposing the bail request, leaving the defence with limited time to respond—another factor that led to the adjournment.

Ahead of Wednesday’s hearing, security around the court was significantly reinforced, with personnel from the police and the Department of State Services deployed to maintain order. Journalists were not allowed into the courtroom during proceedings.

El-Rufai is currently facing multiple charges, including alleged fraud, money laundering, and unlawful possession of public funds, brought against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
