War Escalates as Iraq Launches Drone Attack on US Base in Syria

David Egbede, March 29, 2026March 29, 2026

A fresh wave of tension has gripped the Middle East after a US military base in Syria came under a drone attack allegedly launched from Iraq.

Syria’s Assistant Defence Minister, Sipan Hamo, disclosed that four drones targeted the US base in Qasrak but were successfully intercepted and destroyed without casualties.

“Earlier today, the US base in Qasrak, situated on our land, was targeted by four drones launched from Iraqi territory,” Hamo said.

“The drones were intercepted and destroyed without any casualties. We hold Iraq accountable and urge it to take measures to prevent future attacks that jeopardize our stability.”

The incident follows a similar attempted strike on the al-Tanf base just a day earlier, which Syrian forces also repelled.
Recent reports indicate that multiple US-linked installations in Syria have been targeted in attacks tied to escalating regional tensions, with Iraqi authorities already detaining suspects linked to earlier strikes.

The situation comes amid a broader conflict involving US and Israeli operations against Iran, with pro-Iranian groups intensifying attacks on American interests across the region.
