2027: Saraki Rules Out Presidential Ambition, Backs South to Complete 8 Years

David Egbede, March 27, 2026March 27, 2026

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has dismissed speculations about a possible presidential run in 2027, stressing his commitment to the principle of zoning.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Saraki said it is only fair for the South to complete an eight-year term in office.

He explained that he was among key figures within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who supported zoning the 2027 presidential ticket to the South, adding that he remains fully aligned with that position.

Saraki noted that while the party allowed candidates from all regions in 2023, internal discussions ahead of 2027 favoured a Southern presidency.

According to him, respecting that decision means he will not be in the race.

“I believe it is only fair to allow the South complete its eight years. I supported the move for the PDP to zone the presidency to the South in 2027, and I stand by that decision,” he said.
