President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for London ahead of his state visit to the United Kingdom, where he will be hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The President is accompanied by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for the visit, which marks a significant moment in diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the UK.

They took off from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 10:00 am on Tuesday.

The trip is expected to further strengthen longstanding ties between both countries, with discussions set to focus on key areas including trade and investment, security cooperation, education, and cultural exchange.

This visit comes amid renewed efforts by the Nigerian government to deepen international partnerships and attract foreign investment, following a series of economic and governance reforms under the Tinubu administration.

It also carries historical significance, as it is the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to the United Kingdom in nearly four decades, and the first time a Nigerian President will be hosted by the British monarch at Windsor Castle.

During the visit, President Tinubu is expected to hold high-level engagements with British officials, including a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as well as participate in events aimed at strengthening economic and diplomatic cooperation between both countries.

The visit will also feature a state banquet hosted in honour of the Nigerian leader, alongside engagements with business leaders, members of the Nigerian diaspora, and organisations involved in interfaith dialogue.
