The management of Plateau University, Bokkos has sanctioned 76 students for examination malpractice.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by Mr. Ngwen Jacob, speaking on behalf of Mr. Masara Kim, the university’s acting Public Relations Officer (PRO).

Kim stated that the sanctions were approved by the university senate during its 102nd regular meeting, chaired by Prof. Moses Galadima.

The decision followed a report presented to the senate by its Committee on Examination Misconducts.

According to Kim, the students committed the offences during the second semester examinations of the 2024/2025 academic session.

“The committee investigated 76 students apprehended during the second semester examination for 2024/2025 academic session.

“Offences such as possession of mobile phones into examination halls, written notes and inscriptions on body parts related to examination questions were committed by the students.

“After deliberations, the senate approved punishments in line with the provisions of the students’ handbook.

“The sanctions include rustication for one academic session, compulsory carryover of affected courses and outright expulsions in severe cases,” he said.

Kim said that the management reaffirmed the university’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice.

He particularly said that the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Shedrach Best, had overtime emphasised its commitment to integrity, discipline and sound moral values.
