Fire Outbreak Razes Several Shops at Terminus Market, Jos

David Egbede, March 15, 2026March 15, 2026

A fire outbreak on Saturday night destroyed more than 10 shops at the busy Terminus Market in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.

The blaze reportedly started around 10 p.m., shortly after traders had closed their businesses for the day.

Most of the affected shops, mainly those dealing in clothes and footwear, were completely burnt, with goods reduced to ashes.

Although the exact cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, some traders suspect it may have been triggered by an electrical fault.

Emergency responders quickly moved in to contain the flames. Firefighters, including teams from the National Emergency Management Agency, worked alongside the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Fire Service, and the Plateau State Fire Service to put out the fire.

Sources said the swift coordination among the agencies helped stop the fire from spreading further across the busy commercial area.

Terminus Market has recorded several fire incidents in the past year, with previous outbreaks destroying goods worth millions of naira.
