The Chief of the South African Army, Lawrence Mbatha, has visited the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, praising its rapid growth and expanding role in modern military operations.
Mbatha, a lieutenant general, made the remarks during the visit on Monday, where he commended the unit’s professionalism and progress since its establishment in 2020.

According to him, cyber warfare capabilities have become increasingly vital to contemporary military operations, making the development of specialised cyber units essential for national security.
The visit also highlighted the longstanding military cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa, with both sides reaffirming the importance of sustained collaboration in areas such as training, intelligence sharing and strategic engagement.
Welcoming the delegation, the Commander of the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, Kennedy Osemwegie, described the visit as historic and a significant step toward strengthening defence cooperation between the two countries.

Osemwegie noted that the engagement would further boost collaboration in cyber warfare, capacity building and other areas of military partnership.
He added that continued cooperation between the two nations would enhance their ability to respond to emerging security threats in the digital domain.
