FCTA Confirms 1,659 Staff as 224 Absentees Raise Ghost Worker Suspicions

Rejoice Ewodage, March 8, 2026March 8, 2026

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved the confirmation of appointment of 1,659 workers employed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in 2016 and 2019.

Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja.

Ezeh said the workers were among the 2,281 staff members who participated in a confirmation examination conducted by the commission on February 28.

According to him, a total of 2,512 workers were invited to sit for the examination, but only 2,281 turned up.

He noted that 224 officers failed to appear, raising suspicions that some of them could be ghost workers within the system.

“Some of the workers who sat for the confirmation examination were employed as far back as 2016 and 2019, while others were employed shortly before the minister assumed office in August 2023,” Ezeh said.

The commission chairman added that preparations had also been concluded to conduct promotion exercises for 2025 and 2026, following approval by the FCT minister.

He explained that the move aligns with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to improve conditions for workers in the FCT.

Ezeh advised affected staff to check the status of their confirmation on the commission’s website.
