Army rescue 18 passengers from Sea pirates off Cameroon coast.

David Egbede, January 12, 2026January 12, 2026

Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued 18 passengers, including two infants, who were abducted by suspected sea pirates during an attack on a passenger boat travelling from Nigeria to Cameroon.

The passengers were taken hostage after pirates, operating in two speedboats and a wooden boat, intercepted and hijacked the vessel near the Kombo 4 Fishing Port in Cameroon. The attack triggered panic among passengers before the assailants fled with their captives.

Military sources said the rescue operation was launched after a distress call alerted security forces to the incident. Troops swiftly mobilised, tracked the pirates and successfully freed all 18 abducted passengers without reported casualties.

The rescued victims have since been secured and are receiving necessary support, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators. The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to securing waterways and curbing piracy along the Nigeria–Cameroon maritime corridor.
