A high-level Nigerian delegation has departed for N’Djamena, Republic of Chad, to participate in the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) meeting.
The delegation is being led by the Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Terlumun Utsev, FNSE, and includes the Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, as well as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Emanso Umobong, among other officials. The team departed from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Established in 1960 by Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger, the Lake Chad Basin Commission manages and regulates the shared water and natural resources of the Lake Chad Basin.
Its mandate includes ensuring sustainable resource management, biodiversity conservation, and equitable access to water to support socioeconomic development in the region.
The upcoming meeting aims to strengthen cooperation among member states on sustainable water resource management, environmental restoration, poverty reduction, and the promotion of peace and stability across the Lake Chad Basin.
