The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially presented Certificates of Return to the newly elected council chairmen, vice chairmen, and ward councillors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The brief ceremony took place at the INEC FCT office in Area 10, on Wednesdsay, where the Resident Electoral Commissioner urged the officials to view their electoral victory as a responsibility to serve their constituents diligently.

The event marked the formal recognition of the elected council officials, setting the stage for them to assume office and commence their duties.

The February 21, 2026, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections were conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to elect chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors across the six area councils — Abaji, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali.

The elections were held to fill grassroots leadership positions responsible for local administration, primary healthcare, basic education, sanitation, and community development within the FCT.
