Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will be laid to rest in the holy city of Mashhad, according to Fars news agency on Tuesday.
Khamenei, who led the country for 36 years, was reportedly killed at the age of 86 during a series of US-Israeli attacks on Saturday.
A native of Mashhad, Iran’s second-largest city, Khamenei will be buried near his father at the Imam Reza shrine.
The Revolutionary Guards announced on their Telegram account that a “large farewell ceremony” will take place in Tehran prior to the burial.
No official date for the interment has been released.
