Iran: U.S Embassy Issues Security Alert Over Planned Protest in Abuja

David Egbede, March 4, 2026

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued a security alert to its citizens in Abuja ahead of a planned protest in the capital.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Wednesday, the Embassy noted a high likelihood of demonstrations in Abuja today amid the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The statement cautioned that past protests related to the conflict have sometimes escalated into violent clashes between demonstrators and Nigerian security forces. “The Embassy strongly recommends that all US citizens in Abuja remain in their residences on Wednesday, March 4”, the statement added.

In an earlier post, the Embassy also cancelled all visa appointments earlier scheduled for Wednesday.

The post reads, “Due to the potential for protests in Abuja, the U.S Embassy in Abuja has cancelled all visa appointments on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Applicants will be contacted with information on how to reschedule. Please monitor our website and social media channels for further updates.

“For emergency assistance, please contact the U.S. Embassy at +234 209 461 4328 or visit the website. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”
