The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved ₦4 billion each for 12 selected universities to rehabilitate engineering and technology workshops, upgrade laboratories, and install modern equipment under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Special High-Impact Intervention Project.

The intervention is aimed at strengthening practical training, boosting innovation, and enhancing the global competitiveness of Nigerian universities, particularly in engineering and technology disciplines.

The beneficiary institutions include the Federal University of Technology, Minna; Federal University of Technology, Akure; Federal University of Technology, Owerri; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University; Federal University of Technology, Ikot-Abasi; and the Federal University of Technology, Babura.

Others are the Nigerian Army University, Biu; African Aviation and Aerospace University; Shehu Shagari University of Education, Sokoto; Enugu State University of Science and Technology; and the University of Ilesha, Osun State.

To ensure effective implementation, a monitoring committee has been inaugurated to supervise the proposed engineering upgrade programme across the selected institutions.

The initiative forms part of the Tinubu administration’s broader push to reposition Nigeria’s higher education sector through improved infrastructure, industry-relevant training, and enhanced research capacity.
