Rejoice Ewodage, February 25, 2026February 25, 2026

The immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is set to formally hand over leadership of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to Olatunji Ridwan Disu, who was appointed Acting IGP by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday.

Disu becomes the 23rd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police.

The handover ceremony, scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the IGP Conference Hall, Force Headquarters in Abuja, had not commenced at the time of filing this report.

Egbetokun resigned from the office on Tuesday, citing family considerations.

President Tinubu immediately accepted his resignation and approved the appointment of AIG Disu, who currently heads the Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, as his replacement in an acting capacity.

Following this change in leadership, eight senior Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) who were part of the Force Management Team are expected to proceed on compulsory retirement, in line with police service regulations.
