David Egbede, February 24, 2026February 24, 2026

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has ratified the appointment of Peter Akpe as the new Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.

The approval was granted during plenary on Tuesday.

Akpe’s appointment comes in the wake of the death of the former deputy governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who collapsed and passed away in December 2025.

Ewhrudjakpo was laid to rest on January 30, 2026, in his hometown of Ofoni, located in Sagbama Local Government Area.

Before his nomination, Akpe, a pastor, served as Chief of Staff to Governor Douye Diri.
