David Egbede, February 18, 2026February 18, 2026

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a 40-year-old man, Yusuf Muhammed, to six months in prison for misappropriating funds and engaging in conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, handed down the sentence after Muhammed pleaded guilty to the charge of conversion of funds but denied the allegation of breach of peace. The court also ordered him to pay N240,000 in restitution to the complainant.

Muhammed, whose residential address was not disclosed, had been arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on conversion of funds and breach of peace.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court that the offences were committed in November 2025 in the Lekeleke area of Ado-Ekiti. He explained that the defendant sold provisions valued at N240,000 belonging to one Isia Abdullahi and diverted the proceeds for personal use.

Apata further stated that the complainant had entrusted his shop to Muhammed while he travelled, but upon his return, the defendant failed to remit the sales proceeds. He added that Muhammed’s actions were also capable of disturbing public peace.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Section 295 and are punishable under Sections 302 and 181(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
