Obi, Kwankwaso Supporters Hold Unity Summit in Abuja

Soliu Oyesiji, May 2, 2026May 2, 2026

Supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso are set to hold a unity summit in Abuja amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The summit, themed “One Voice, One Vision: In Unity We Win,” is scheduled to take place today (Saturday), according to organisers under the OK Movement.

A flyer circulated on X indicated that eight speakers will address participants, including Buba Galadima of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), activist Aisha Yesufu, and Isaac Fayose.

Others listed include Moses Paul, a former chairmanship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Adebayo Adefolaseye, the OK Movement South-West coordinator.

Organisers said about 428 Nigerians had registered to attend the summit as of the time of filing this report.

The meeting comes amid speculation that Obi and Kwankwaso may soon defect from the ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Habibu Mohammed, had disclosed that discussions with the NDC were about 90 per cent complete, with only minor issues left to be resolved.

“I believe him, Peter Obi, and some others will be joining the NDC,” Mohammed said, adding that the move could be finalised early next week.

The development is linked to the ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC, which has raised concerns among stakeholders.

The Supreme Court of Nigeria recently returned the party’s leadership dispute to the Federal High Court for determination, prolonging uncertainty within the party.

The OK Movement, launched in April, is aimed at mobilising support for a possible joint ticket involving Obi and Kwankwaso in the next general elections.
