Yul Edochie Slams Peter Obi, Questions Leadership Capacity

Soliu Oyesiji, May 1, 2026May 1, 2026

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has intensified his criticism of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, declaring that the ex-Anambra governor lacks the capacity to pull Nigeria out of poverty.

In a series of posts shared on his X (formerly Twitter) page, Edochie argued that Obi’s past leadership record does not inspire confidence in his ability to lead the country.

“If you can’t lift people around you out of poverty, you simply can’t lift Nigeria out of poverty,” the actor wrote.

Edochie questioned Obi’s impact during his time in public office and in private business, suggesting that his influence has not translated into measurable success for others.

“How can you spend many years in power, many years as a successful businessman, yet nobody can say he’s successful today because of you. You can’t even lift your family members,” he said.

The actor also dismissed Obi’s performance as governor of Anambra State, insisting it falls short of expectations for national leadership.

“Peter Obi built nothing in Anambra. Absolutely nothing. If you can’t build Anambra you can’t build Nigeria. Simple and short,” he added.

Edochie further took aim at Obi’s leadership qualities, stating: “Peter Obi is not a leader.”

Reiterating his stance, he concluded that Obi does not measure up to current President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Peter Obi is no match for Tinubu,” he said.

Edochie’s latest remarks are part of a string of public criticisms he has directed at the former presidential candidate in recent weeks, further fuelling political debate on social media.
