Bimbo Ademoye Cries Out Over Piracy As YouTube Demonetises Movie

David Egbede, January 26, 2026

Nollywood actress and producer Bimbo Ademoye has raised concerns over piracy and wrongful copyright claims after her film Where Love Lives was reportedly demonetised on YouTube.

In a video shared on social media on Sunday, the actress said the film had already attracted more than 18 million views on the platform, describing the demonetisation as both frustrating and harmful to creators. Ademoye explained that the dispute revolves around a song featured in the movie, which she insists was legally obtained and properly cleared prior to release.

She claimed that a false copyright claim led to the demonetisation, highlighting the vulnerability of Nigerian filmmakers to misuse of digital copyright systems. Her experience has struck a chord with other Nollywood producers who face similar challenges, as piracy and questionable copyright strikes increasingly threaten online revenue streams.

The incident has sparked renewed discussions within the industry about the need for stronger protections, clearer enforcement, and platform accountability to safeguard original content. As Nollywood increasingly relies on digital distribution for global audiences, Ademoye’s case underscores the growing risks posed by digital piracy and unlawful claims to the sustainability of the industry
