Manchester City in Talks Over Fixture Rescheduling Amid Title Race Pressure

Soliu Oyesiji, April 28, 2026

Manchester City are in discussions with the Premier League over the rearrangement of two key fixtures that could significantly influence the closing stages of the title race.

According to BBC Sport, the proposed changes stem from City’s participation in the FA Cup Final, which has created a scheduling clash during a decisive period of the season.

The club’s away match against AFC Bournemouth, originally set for May 17, is expected to be moved due to its overlap with the Wembley final. Meanwhile, City’s home fixture against Crystal Palace previously postponed from March, remains without a confirmed rescheduled date.

One option under consideration would see Crystal Palace visit the Etihad Stadium on May 13, followed by the trip to Bournemouth on May 19. That arrangement would compress City’s schedule, potentially resulting in three matches within seven days, including the FA Cup final.

An alternative proposal being reviewed would place the Bournemouth fixture on May 12 and the Crystal Palace match on May 19. That scenario would give City additional recovery time ahead of the cup final while also ensuring both remaining league fixtures are played at home.

However, UEFA competition scheduling constraints are limiting available dates, complicating efforts to finalise a suitable calendar.

The discussions are being closely monitored by title rivals Arsenal, who remain locked in a tight battle with City at the top of the Premier League. Any variation in rest periods or fixture congestion could prove decisive in the run-in.

An official decision from the Premier League is expected soon, as talks continue between the league, clubs, and competition authorities in an effort to balance competitive fairness with logistical demands during a congested end-of-season schedule.
