The Lagos State Government has dismissed reports alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was ordered to resign on health grounds, describing the claim as false and misleading.
The report, published by Sahara Reporters, had suggested that the Governor was asked to step aside, triggering reactions across social media and political circles.
Responding to the publication on Monday evening, the Governor’s office rejected the claims in strong terms, insisting there was no directive or process suggesting a resignation. “This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign—this is another fake news,” the statement noted.
It emphasised that Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, mentally sound, and fully engaged in the discharge of his responsibilities as Governor of Lagos State.
The government further clarified that earlier in the day, the Governor received Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat on a courtesy visit, during which he formally communicated his intention to contest for office in the future. The meeting, according to the statement, held in a cordial and routine atmosphere.
While acknowledging that it ordinarily avoids engaging unverified reports, the government said the clarification became necessary to prevent public misinformation and unnecessary speculation.
It urged the public to disregard the publication and verify information from official channels before drawing conclusions.
