Labour Party Begins Nationwide Ward Congresses as Nenadi Usman Participates in Kaduna

Soliu Oyesiji, April 24, 2026

The Labour Party has commenced its nationwide ward congresses, with its Interim National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, participating in the exercise in Kaduna State and commending the peaceful conduct of the process.

According to a statement issued yesterday by Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Interim National Chairman, Ken Eluma Asogwa. Usman took part in the congress held in Jere South Ward, Kagarko Local Government Area, where the exercise was conducted alongside Jere North Ward at a joint venue.

Speaking after observing the proceedings, the party leader said members successfully elected new executives at the grassroots level without incident.

“This marks the commencement of our congresses at the ward level. What you have seen here are Jere North and Jere South conducting their congresses together, as is customary. New executives have been duly elected,” she said.

She outlined the party’s timetable for the remaining phases of the internal democratic process, noting that the exercise would proceed to local government and state congresses before culminating in a national convention scheduled to take place in Umuahia.

On internal party reforms, Usman reiterated the Labour Party’s commitment to inclusivity, particularly gender balance in leadership positions.

“We are committed to ensuring greater participation of women in leadership, especially in party administration,” she stated.

The ward congresses were held across the country’s 8,809 political wards, marking a significant step in the party’s reorganization efforts. Newly elected ward executives are expected to participate in the upcoming local government congresses slated for April 24, followed by state congresses on April 25, ahead of the national convention on April 28.

Usman expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise nationwide, describing it as orderly and well coordinated. She also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its role in monitoring the process.

“Reports from across the federation indicate that the exercise was largely peaceful and well-organised, with INEC playing a commendable role through timely monitoring,” she said.

She urged party members to maintain the peaceful atmosphere observed during the ward congresses throughout the remaining stages of the process.
