MTN to Compensate Subscribers Over Poor Network Service

Soliu Oyesiji, April 24, 2026April 24, 2026

MTN Nigeria has announced plans to compensate customers affected by poor network quality, following a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission.

The telecom operator disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that subscribers in areas where service deficiencies were recorded would receive compensation for the months of November, December and January.

The development comes after the regulator mandated mobile network operators to address service lapses and provide redress to affected users.

Although MTN did not specify a start date for the compensation, the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Aminu Maida, said payments would begin imminently.

“Subscribers will start receiving compensation from the telecom operators from Friday, April 24, 2026,” Maida said during an interactive session with journalists.

The move is part of efforts by the commission to enforce quality of service standards and ensure accountability among telecom providers.
