“Fix Wike Contradiction or Lose Me” — Dan Ulasi Warns Party Ahead of 2027

Soliu Oyesiji, April 23, 2026April 23, 2026

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has raised fresh concerns over the party’s chances in the 2027 presidential election, warning that it cannot effectively challenge President Bola Tinubu while Nyesom Wike remains a leading figure within its ranks.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Thursday, Ulasi said the PDP is currently weakened by internal contradictions, particularly Wike’s perceived alignment with the ruling government.

“I don’t see my party, as it is today, confronting Tinubu successfully with Wike as national leader,” he said, adding that he could reconsider his membership if the situation remains unresolved.

The party stalwart argued that Wike cannot simultaneously claim leadership within the PDP while openly supporting the administration of President Tinubu, describing the situation as counterproductive.

According to him, the issue raises serious questions about party loyalty and direction, especially as the PDP prepares for future elections.

“If another candidate emerges as the PDP flag-bearer, what role would Wike play? Will he stand with the party at rallies and conventions, or align elsewhere? These are questions that must be answered,”Ulasi queried.

He cautioned that his continued participation in party activities may depend on how the leadership addresses these concerns, hinting that an upcoming meeting could be his last if no clarity is provided.

In the same interview, Ulasi disclosed that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had visited him multiple times this year, including a recent stop after an event in Enugu.

He spoke positively about Obi’s ideas and leadership approach, noting that conversations with him inspire optimism about Nigeria’s future, though he stopped short of declaring any political alliance.

Reflecting on his long history with the PDP, Ulasi said he has remained deeply committed to the party since its formation, recalling his presence alongside late former Vice-President Alex Ekueme and other founding members.

Despite his dissatisfaction, he emphasized that leaving the PDP would not mean joining another political platform.

“Once I leave, I will simply remain independent and offer advice where necessary,” he concluded.
