Tinubu’s Aide Fires Back at Obi, Questions Leadership Record and Party Crisis Handling

Soliu Oyesiji, April 20, 2026

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, has criticised the leadership capacity of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, questioning his ability to manage internal party disputes and sustain political structures.

Dare made the remarks during an interview on African Independent Television (AIT) on Monday, where he argued that Obi has not demonstrated strong party-building skills and failed to effectively manage crises within the Labour Party.

He questioned Obi’s historical connection with the party, insisting he neither founded nor exercised full control over its structure.

“Look at the history of the Labour Party. Did Obi form the Labour Party? Was he even in control of the Labour Party?” Dare asked.

He further accused the former presidential candidate of lacking consistency in party affiliation and leadership commitment, alleging that Obi tends to move in and out of political platforms without resolving internal challenges.

“When the crisis of Labour started almost two and a half years back, did Obi even play a central role?” he said, adding that the party’s internal disputes played out publicly without effective intervention from its key figures.

Dare also referenced Obi’s exit from the party during its internal crisis, questioning his suitability for national leadership.

“You cannot fix your party,” he said, adding, “Is that the person you want to entrust the fate of 230 million people to?”On the internal dispute within the African Democratic Congress, Dare dismissed claims linking the presidency to the crisis, describing it as a purely internal matter already before the courts.

He said the party’s ownership dispute should be resolved through judicial processes, urging affected stakeholders to allow the legal system to take its course.

“ADC was hijacked. The original owners are back to say they want their party back,” he said.

Dare stressed that the administration respects the judiciary and would not interfere in ongoing cases, adding that court rulings would ultimately determine the outcome of the disputes.

“You have judicial cases ongoing… you wait for the judgment and declarations of the court,” he said.
