Former Rivers State Governor and 2027 presidential hopeful, Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed doubts over President Bola Tinubu’s emergence as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2022 presidential primary.
Amaechi, who contested the ticket alongside Tinubu, said he did not agree with the outcome of the primary at the time, citing concerns about balance and inclusiveness in governance.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, he stated: “On the first day they announced Tinubu as winner, I told him I did not agree.”
The former minister of transportation argued that a stable society must reflect fairness across religious and regional lines, stressing the need for leadership that accommodates all groups.
“There must be a balance in every society. You must protect the interests of all religions and ensure every region feels a sense of belonging,” he said.
Amaechi further criticised what he described as a lack of inclusiveness in the current administration, noting that governance should foster unity among diverse ethnic and religious groups.
“I do not see the current system adequately protecting the interests of all. People must feel they are part of the country, regardless of tribe or religion,” he added.
His remarks come as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with key actors already positioning within and outside major political parties.
