Embattled Nasarawa PDP Chairman Dumps Party, Defect to SDP

David Egbede, April 17, 2026

Adamu Ninga, embattled Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has confirmed his resignation from the position and the party.

The Chairman confirmed this in an interview with journalists on Friday in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The State Working Committee of PDP in a letter signed by the State Secretary Eng. Kefas Laura on March 25, suspended the chairman for alleged gross misconduct.

Ninga explained that he had already formally written to the PDP Chairman of his electoral ward, Agyaga Electoral Ward of Akwanga Local Government Area on his decision to leave the party.

He attributed the reason for his resignation from his position and the party to a strained relationship within the party and pressure from some persons to manipulate him to serve their selfish interests.

“I chose to resign due to an uncivil relationship with some party members who attempted to pressure me into breaking party rules.

“I feel that I should resign if my relationship with some group of persons is not cordial because I rather take the part of honour than a situation where people want to compel me to serve their individual interest,” Ninga added.

He explained that he has not yet decided on the political party to join, but promised to make it public once a decision is reached.

“You know I’m a politician, I don’t have any other job to do other than politics. So I will let you know when I decide on the next line of action,” he said.

He appreciated his supporters and the people of the state for their support during his tenure and promised to move to the party they want him to go to.
