The internal crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified as a faction led by National Chairman Nafiu Gombe and lawmaker Leke Abejide dismissed the recent Abuja convention organised by a coalition group, describing it as illegal and in breach of existing court orders.
At a press briefing in Abuja, on Friday, the factional leadership insisted that the April 14, 2026 convention violated a Court of Appeal judgment and lacked any legal backing, especially as it was allegedly conducted without the presence or approval of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Gombe further alleged that the organisers were not recognised members of the party and therefore had no authority to hold a national convention or take binding decisions on behalf of the ADC.
He also raised concerns over alleged forgery of official documents and signatures linked to the exercise.
Abejide, on his part, condemned the gathering as an unlawful assembly and accused its promoters of openly disregarding court directives.
He also dismissed reports of his suspension by rival factions, insisting such actions have no legal effect.
The faction warned that the ongoing dispute, now before the courts, could further destabilise the party and threaten its participation in future elections if not urgently resolved.
