FG to Launch 2026 Flood Outlook Ahead of Rainy Season

David Egbede, April 15, 2026April 15, 2026

The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to unveil the 2026 Annual Flood Outlook (AFO) as the country prepares for the upcoming rainy season.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to officially launch the initiative at the Banquet Hall of the Aso Villa in Abuja.

The outlook represents a shift from reactive disaster response to a more proactive, data-driven approach to flood management.

It follows a pre-launch meeting organized by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), aimed at strengthening preparedness nationwide.

Experts say the 2026 AFO will serve as a vital guide for farmers, businesses, and communities—especially those in flood-prone areas—helping them plan ahead as forecasts indicate a mix of heavy rainfall and dry spells across the country.

Beyond disaster management, the report is expected to support agricultural planning and reduce the impact of flooding on livelihoods.
