Leaders and members of the African Democratic Congress have converged in Abuja for the party’s national convention, with stakeholders stressing unity and a renewed strategy to strengthen opposition politics in the country.
The convention, holding at the Rainbow Event Centre in Garki, has drawn delegates from across the federation to deliberate on the party’s future direction and leadership.
Chairman of the planning committee, Liyel Imoke, described the gathering as a milestone for the party.
“This is a major success and the first convention of this scale organised by the party,” Imoke said.
Speaking at the event, the leader of the party and former Senate President, David Mark, underscored the importance of a vibrant opposition in a democratic system.
“A strong opposition remains essential in any democracy, and this convention offers us the opportunity to reposition the party to better serve the people,” Mark said.
He acknowledged the challenges faced ahead of the event, including logistical and organisational hurdles, but noted that the party overcame them through determination.
“Despite the difficulties encountered, our resilience and commitment ensured that this convention holds successfully,” he added.
The gathering is widely seen as a defining moment for the ADC as it seeks to expand its influence and reposition itself within Nigeria’s political landscape.
Further deliberations and outcomes from the convention are expected to shape the party’s structure and strategy ahead of future elections.
