A pro-Tinubu Igbo coalition, NdIgbo for Tinubu 2027 Forum (NDI–ABAT), has dismissed speculations of a possible alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing it as weak and unlikely to succeed.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Secretary General, Dr. Ugwuoke Ugwuoke Jr., the group said the proposed partnership would not pose any real challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The forum also claimed that talks about the alliance have been linked to the influence of a former president, though it offered no concrete evidence.
While noting recent interactions between Obi and Kwankwaso — including Obi’s visit to Kano — the group maintained that such engagements do not amount to a strong political coalition.
According to NDI–ABAT, internal divisions within the opposition, particularly the continued influence and ambitions of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, could weaken any potential alliance.
The group expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances, especially in the South-East, citing ongoing mobilisation efforts and the role of Minister of Works, David Umahi, in building support.
It concluded that any emerging opposition alliances involving Obi, Kwankwaso, or other figures are unlikely to significantly alter the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, though analysts say political alignments could still shift as the race draws closer.
