David Egbede, April 8, 2026

Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have unanimously endorsed the Speaker, Adebowale Ogundoyin, as their preferred candidate to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde in 2027.

The endorsement was announced during plenary on Wednesday. Ogundoyin, who represents Ibarapa East State Constituency, is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The motion was moved by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Fadeyi, who represents Ona Ara State Constituency.

Fadeyi said the lawmakers had resolved to mobilise support across the state for Ogundoyin, describing him as a stabilising force within the legislature. He added that the Speaker possesses the capacity to take over leadership of the state in 2027.

Also speaking, the Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin, commended the Speaker’s performance, noting that he has demonstrated leadership beyond expectations.

Other lawmakers at the plenary backed the endorsement, stating that Ogundoyin’s track record shows he is prepared for greater responsibility. They also pledged their full support for his ambition to succeed Governor Makinde in 2027.
