Zamfara Stakeholders Call on Gov Lawal to Decamp to APC as PDP Faces Fresh Crisis

David Egbede, February 28, 2026February 28, 2026

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be facing further setbacks as party stakeholders in Zamfara State have reportedly called on Governor Dauda Lawal to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The revelation was made on Saturday by APC chieftain Iran Muhammad in a statement posted on X.

Muhammad stated that Governor Lawal had summoned an emergency meeting with prominent stakeholders to discuss the state’s political future and possible next steps.

In a video accompanying the post, Muhammed claimed that the governor met with members of his cabinet and PDP leaders, where the option of joining the APC was discussed.

“The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, PhD, held an emergency meeting with his cabinet and PDP stakeholders late last night to discuss the way forward. During the meeting, they recommended that he join the APC,” Muhammad wrote.

The development is said to be unfolding against the backdrop of a growing wave of defections within the PDP.

RBN reports that Governor Lawal is now one of only three PDP governors still in the party, following the recent exit of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who announced his defection on Friday.

The other governors who remain in the PDP are Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
