The allocation, approved under Title XLIII for Operation and Maintenance, is earmarked for activities under the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), which oversees American military engagement on the continent. The move reflects a strategic push to strengthen intelligence sharing, logistics, training and operational support for partner nations battling armed groups, with Nigeria remaining a central focus due to its frontline role in regional security.
The fresh funding comes on the heels of recent high profile security actions, including Christmas Day strikes on terrorist hideouts in Sokoto State carried out under the Donald Trump administration. These operations underscored a renewed tempo in joint counter-terrorism efforts, aimed at degrading extremist networks and cutting off their operational capabilities across border communities.
Further reinforcing this commitment, AFRICOM on Tuesday delivered a new batch of military equipment to Nigerian security agencies, part of ongoing efforts to enhance battlefield readiness and operational effectiveness.
