The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mohammed Kasim of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the Gwagwalada Area Council chairmanship election.
Announcing the result on Sunday, the Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Philip Akpeni, said Kasim polled 22,165 votes to emerge victorious in the February 21 poll.
According to the official figures released at the collation centre, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Yahaya Usman, secured 17,788 votes, while Biko Umar of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) garnered 1,687 votes to place third.
The election was conducted across 10 wards in the council, including Paiko, Dobi, Gwako, Ibwa, Staff Quarters, Zuba, Ikwa, Kutunku, Gwagwalada Centre and Tunga Maje.
Kasim’s victory marks a key win for the PDP in the 2026 FCT Area Council elections.
