Sunday Ndidi, the father of Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi, has died.
Turkish club Besiktas, where the Super Eagles captain plays, said on Tuesday that Ndidi’s father died in a traffic accident. Local media reported that he was involved in a road accident in the Umunede area of Delta state and was taken to a hospital in Agbor, where he later died.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident,” Besiktas statement reads. “May Allah grant mercy to the deceased; we extend our condolences to our footballer Wilfred Ndidi, his family, and loved ones.”
In a deeply personal Instagram post on Tuesday, the Nigerian midfielder reflected on their final conversation and the pain of losing a man who played a central role in his life and football journey.
Ndidi Snr was a retired military officer and his son recently celebrated his influence when the Super Eagles captain scored in Nigeria’s 3-2 victory over Tunisia at the 2025 AFCON.
