The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, undertook an emergency trip to Lagos late Monday night following a fire outbreak at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

Keyamo disclosed that he arrived at the airport around midnight and immediately joined the Managing Director and management team of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, who were actively coordinating response efforts to contain the incident.

The minister commended FAAN personnel and other first responders for swiftly activating established emergency procedures. He noted that their prompt and coordinated actions were crucial in safeguarding lives and limiting the impact of the fire.

Keyamo further directed the FAAN Fire Department and the Lagos State Fire Service to maintain an overnight vigil to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. He added that he would undertake an early morning tour of the airport to assess the extent of damage and issue necessary directives.
