Kenneth Okonkwo, a lawyer and politician, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to manipulate the upcoming 2027 elections through the use of state institutions.
He made the allegation on Tuesday during an interview on Morning Show, broadcast by Arise Television.
Okonkwo was responding to the APC-led Federal Government’s directive requiring opposition parties to submit digitalized registers within a very short timeframe.
He recalled that before the December recess, the National Assembly had concluded that electronic transmission of results would be ensured. However, Okonkwo lamented that upon their return, allegedly following a call from President Bola Tinubu, lawmakers scrapped the electronic transmission system within a week and replaced it with provisions he described as undermining democratic processes. “What the APC is doing is trying to use state institutions to rig the 2027 elections before they happen.
“How can this government demand opposition parties submit digitalised registers within 2 months? Amendments should cure mischief, but APC’s aim is to create it.
“Going forward, it will require the collective effort of all Nigerians to combat disenchantments, address grievances and restore faith in electoral democracy,” he said.
