Kano Gov. Abba Yusuf has said his decision to join the All Progressives Congress is aimed at positioning the state at the center of national decision-making and securing a better future for its residents.
Speaking on Monday at the party’s 2026 grand rally at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, Yusuf told supporters the state could no longer afford to be sidelined at the federal level.
He described the move as one of responsibility rather than personal ambition, saying it would enable closer engagement with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and accelerate development through stronger ties with the federal government.
“It is about placing Kano in a position where it can fully participate in national development and secure a better future for its citizens,” Yusuf said.
“With the support of our great party and the cooperation of the Federal Government, Kano State is better positioned to move forward with confidence and stability.”
The governor, who resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in January amid internal crises and leadership dispute, thanked Vice-President Kashim Shettima for formally receiving him into the APC fold.
Other dignitaries at the event included the governors of Jigawa, Sokoto, Kaduna, Katsina, Borno, Yobe and Plateau states.
Also in attendance were former APC national chairman and ex-Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, as well as the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin.
