Friendly: Okobi Happy to Rejoin Super Falcons After Maternity Break

David Egbede, February 26, 2026February 26, 2026

Midfielder Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene has expressed delight at her return to the Super Falcons following an extended absence.

Okobi last represented the Super Falcons at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and was notably left out of Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Ottawa Rapid star later stepped away from football after becoming pregnant and welcoming a child.

However, the 32-year-old made a surprise comeback to the national scene after receiving an invitation for the Super Falcons’ double-header international friendly matches against Cameroon women’s national football team last week.

The former Falconets declared she is honoured with the invitation.

“I’m excited, and happy to be back in the team again. I’m grateful, and honoured. I can’t talk about my expectations at the moment . The way I do things is to take one step at a time,” Okobi told the Super Falcons media.

“I have seen a lot of messages, criticism in the social media which I don’t to care about . I know what I did, and what has happened to me since child birth. It’s a blessing and not a cause.”
