Four traders killed while travelling from Jos to Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State have been buried in Barkin Ladi under tight security arrangements.
The victims, residents of Yandoya community in Jos North Local Government Area, were reportedly attacked while on their weekly trip to Pankshin for shoe trading.
Family members confirmed that the burial took place on Monday evening at the Sabon Anguwa cemetery in Barkin Ladi town.
Sources within the state government said the decision to bury the victims outside their home community was taken to prevent a breakdown of law and order, following rising tension in parts of Jos after news of the killings spread.
The incident comes amid renewed violence in Plateau State, where at least 10 people were reportedly killed in separate attacks on Dorowa Babuje and Jol communities in Barkin Ladi and Riyom local government areas.
A community leader, Danjuma Ibrahim, said security personnel were deployed after youths gathered to demand the release of the victims’ bodies.
“We were informed in the afternoon that the corpses would be brought to Barkin Ladi for burial. They were later received and funeral rites were conducted here to ease tension in Jos,” he said.
According to Ibrahim, six traders were involved in the attack. Two reportedly escaped, while four were killed.
He called on residents to remain calm and urged government and security agencies to take decisive steps to address the recurring violence in affected communities across the state.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not issued an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the attack.
