The Federal Government has announced plans to rehabilitate more than 13 dilapidated livestock facilities in Benue State as part of efforts to restore peace and stimulate economic growth through livestock development.
The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, made the disclosure on Wednesday at the Benue Peace Summit, where he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing insecurity in the state through a livestock-driven economic strategy.
He conveyed the goodwill of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that livestock reform remains central to the administration’s broader development agenda.

According to the minister, the rehabilitation will be carried out under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement between the Federal Government and the Benue State Government. The initiative is expected to modernise ranches, abattoirs and livestock service centres across the state.
The intervention, he said, aims to create jobs, strengthen the livestock value chain and reduce farmer–herder conflicts by promoting structured and regulated livestock operations.

Meanwhile, Governor Hyacinth Alia, represented by his deputy, Sam Ode, unveiled the state’s 2026–2030 Peace and Reconciliation Plan. The plan is designed to consolidate peacebuilding efforts and facilitate the safe return of displaced persons.
Development partners, including CARE International, International Organization for Migration, and Caritas, expressed support for the initiative.
Stakeholders at the summit also called for sustained collaboration to ensure lasting peace and economic stability in Benue State.
